The better question is:  Who will NOT be paying the proposed Purcell lodging tax?

PERMANENT RESIDENTS OF PURCELL WILL NOT BE PAYING THIS TAX! 

Even if you happen to stay in one of our hotels, the ordinance specifically exempts permanent Purcell residents from paying the tax.

LODGING BUSINESS OWNERS WILL NOT BE PAYING THIS TAX!

Out of town patrons of our lodging industry will pay this tax when they pay for their stay.

The proposed 5% tax will be added to the lodging bill of all out of town overnight guests at our hotels, motels, Airbnb, RV parks and other similar establishments  Those businesses will then submit the collections to the City who will place them into a separate account.

Purcell is one of if not the last community along I-35 not collecting a lodging tax from overnight guests in our lodging industry.  Patrons expect to pay a local lodging tax as they do in so many other communities.  Ardmore charges 5 %, Davis-5%, Norman – 5%, OKC – 5.5% and Pauls Valley – 5%.

Why would we not ask our visitors to help us pay for promotion, improvement and expansion of our attractions as so many other communities already do?

Purcell residents will benefit from the attraction improvements and expansions.   Yet Purcell residents will not pay for them.  What a win-win scenario!
